Our CIRCLE RUG on the wall.
WHEN IN BERLIN
The main inspiration is gathered on a trip to Berlin. We have a strong fascination towards the city's architecture and rawness in general and we love the simple cubist shapes from the Bauhaus aesthetics. It is our vision to emphasize the poetic and decorative qualities of the rug through a fusion of colors, tactility and materiality in this collection.
Exhibition at Gallery Vess 31.05 - 09.04 2017.
The focal point of the exhibition is a carpet collection that stems from a fascination for the mask. The collection is based on a visual narrative about the mask and the theme is a study of how the figuration is being transformed into abstraction.
The mask reflects human facial features but at the same time it is an abstract interpretation that distorts or amplifies what we already know. It contains a story in which the nature of each mask determines whether it is for example a humorous, a scary or maybe even a divine story. How far can we go with the abstraction before losing the feeling that it is a face we are looking at? We wanted to challenge people's perception of the mask and the various associations the viewer gets by looking at our masks. The level of abstraction allows the individual imagination to wander and to create new stories befind the masks.
ASSEMBLAGE is the name of RÖD STUDIO's carpet collection and refers to the tree-dimensional shapes and conceptual story-telling behind the compositions. The collection is inspired by a subjective and eclectic interpretation of the visual identity of the city Marrakech. Originally we got fascinated by the aesthetic complexity of Marrakech where the abundance of colours, patterns and tactility create a tantalizing experience. The goal with this collection is to dissolve and modulate figuration into abstraction. The materials are carefully selected and combine coloured wool yarns with other natural fibres such as horse and goat hair.
ISTANBUL RUGS is inspired by the beautiful Turkish city Istanbul. We were fascinated by the vibrant life and the seductive colours.
The idea was to combine the Turkish aesthetics with our own nordic minimalism and bring it into a clean room where the colours and materials could shine.
The blue indigo color has a strong symbolic value and when it is combined with the velvet fabric the result is intense and creates references to something luxurious, almost decadent. The graphic pattern supports a more contemporary and modern expression.
Materials: Silk and viscose velvet with burnout print.
